Towards the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit

Activities related to the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit
Glocal Environmental Education Promotion Committee
1.Objective of the Glocal Environmental Education Promotion Committee
Hokkaido University of Education is willing to fulfill its regional, national and international responsibilities as the only university of education in Hokkaido by supporting and coordinating activities initiated by its students, staff and faculty members from the perspective of education toward the resolution of various global challenges that will be discussed at the G8 Hokkaido Toyoko Summit, such as global environmental issues. Glocal Environmental Education Committee represents the university in those efforts.
2.Role of the Glocal Environmental Education Promotion Committee
(1) The committee intends to coordinate proposals of new ideas and views to the G8 concerning improvement and promotion of environmental education in various ways. It will host International Symposium on Glocal Environmental Education 2008 as its core project.
(2) The committee will cooperate with the Headquarters for Promotion of Environmental Protection of the university and the Contemporary GP of Hokkaido University of Education, Kushiro, and work toward building a campus environment appropriate for environmental education, enriching the curriculum, and collaborating with the local communities.
(3) The committee will cooperate with the university’s scheme, projects and events related with the G8 themes conducted or hosted by students, staff or faculty members of the university and the related groups.
3.Activities toward better University Environment
---The university will pursue various projects concerning the enrichment of environmental education and cooperate with the Headquarters for the Promotion of Environmental Protection and Contemporary GP (Hokkaido University of Education, Kushiro) to work toward building a campus environment appropriate for conducting environmental education,improving the curriculum, and collaborating with local communities. Moreover, the university has published the "Environmental Report 2006" that outlines the various measures for the environment promoted by the university.

4. Glocal Environmental Education Challenge Project
The university plans various projects to prepare for the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit which will be held in July 2008. As part of this plan, the university invites undergraduate and graduate students to apply for a "Glocal Environmental Education Challenge Project", a voluntary project related to the summit planned and managed by undergraduate and graduate students., For detail, see below.
This programme is intended to support student activities related to the planned themes of the summit such as global environmental issues.

Calls for works for the International YouthYear of Planet Earth (IYPE) Student Contest
International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE) Japan, which aims at "earth sciences for society", calls for pieces of work that focus on the 10 themes of IYPE. The Glocal Environmental Education Promotion Committee of the university has decided to announce the contest to the students of the university.
