The 1st Pacific-rim Conference on Education
Speakers (ISU, SFU, HUE):
Theme: Current Issues on Education of ISU, SFU, and HUE
Speakers from Illinois State University, Simon Fraser University, and Hokkaido University of Education will give 20-minute lectures concerning teacher development at each university. Each country has developed its own views on teaching, such as expectations towards teachers, the beliefs and attitudes of the teachers themselves, etc. These universities, based upon their own cultures, have established a system of pre-service and in-service teacher education, necessary qualifications and conditions in order to become a teacher, and have established the status of teachers as professionals. We can observe a distinct culture and history for each country.
On the other hand, each country shares common educational issues, i.e., how to resolve the heavy workload of teachers, how teachers and staff workers can collaborate effectively, and how to maintain and advance the standards of education.
In this symposium, the speaker from each university will discuss the qualified pre-/in-service teacher professional development program of its university, based upon current conditions and issues surrounding its university.
