Measure for the Prevention of the Spread of the Novel Coronavirus
~ For International Students ~

Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, Hokkaido has declared a state of emergency until March 19th, and, from February 29th has requested that citizens refrain from going out on weekends.
This virus can be hard to detect. In particular, young people may have few symptoms when infected, and can transmit the illness to others unwittingly.

1. Infection Prevention

The best way to prevent infection is to stay at home. If you have leave your home for any reason, please do the following:
(1) Thoroughly wash your hands and gargle with water, also, use alcohol to disinfect your hands.
(2) Follow general sickness etiquette, such as wearing a mask, and avoid crowds as much as possible.
(3) When going out, be careful and try not to touch your eyes, nose, mouth, etc.

2. Health Care

(1) If minor symptoms such as a cold or fever appear, please stay in your home and do not attend classes. Also, take and record your temperature daily.
(2) If any of the following symptoms appear, you are expected to self-isolate and report your condition to your campus. This will allow us to provide you with the medical information and consultation you need.
①      A cold and fever of 37.5 °C or higher that has continued for 4 days or more.
②      A severe feeling of fatigue or a shortness of breath.
(3) Even if you have no symptoms, please contact your campus in the following cases.
①     If you have been in contact with a person who has contracted the novel coronavirus.
②     If you have been in contact with a person involved or in close proximity to the treatment of airway secretions, body fluids, feces, and other contaminants of those suspected of having the novel coronavirus.
③     If you have examined, nursed, cared for, or lived with a person suspected of having the novel coronavirus.

3. In the Event of Contracting the Novel Coronavirus

Immediately contact your campus. Until you have fully recovered, you will be suspended and unable to attend classes.

For any absences from class caused by a suspension due to the novel coronavirus you will be given alternative study methods, such as reports or additional examinations to ensure your education does not suffer.

The suspension period will last until you fully recovered. Please resume taking classes when the symptoms have stopped showing.

* If there is a change in the HUE’s policy regarding the novel coronavirus in the future, we will inform you as soon as possible.
